Day 4 – June 18
The morning in at Lochsa was beautiful. The power came on in time for us to have breakfast in the Lodge.
When we left at 9:45 it was raining lightly and a cool 50 degrees. We didn’t plug the heated gear in because I knew we were headed down to Missoula and warmer weather.

The ride today had a new twist on beautiful. The greens were greener and the clouds were hovering on the mountain tops. Streaks of rain dropping from clouds in the distance, you could tell when the rain would start hitting your face shield. Again, we saw so many lakes and rivers. The river we followed part of the day was the Clark Fork along hwy 200.

Entering Plains, MT we passed a hot dog stand that was to cute to pass up. I radio’d Chuck to stop and I turned around. We found a husband and wife team who had been doing this for 11 years. I believe he was retired and helping out around the stand. He mostly talked, telling us history and sites to see up the road and where to slow down because of Bighorn sheep, moose and deer.
Kalispell brats and Huckleberry lemonade hit the spot!

Shawn's photography skills at 65 mph

A very large Clark Fork River

A  stop at Ross Creek Cedars, off Hwy 56, MT

Standing inside a hollowed out giant cedar looking up.

We took a 1 mile hike through the forest

Barbara used the pit toilets. Chuck says it was a first! Part of the adventure?

I say at the end of the day to our hosts for the night, Quentin and Kathy….” It rained off and on”.  Shawn added quickly, “It was mostly on.”
I think today was good practice for what we will run into many times during the trip. It was a great day despite the cool and wet weather. We saw 3 deer along the road, no moose sightings yet.
Tomorrow will be a fairly short mileage day. Entering Canada…. Radium Hot Springs and the beautiful Lake Louise.
See ya down the road!
