Day 9- Saturday 23rd

This is more fun than adults should be allowed to have, especially old ones like us. I have never been more relaxed about leaving in the mornings for our next destination. I am on vacation! Of course the blogging is more time consuming than I thought it would be, but I am so glad I am journaling this trip. Yesterday, Hyder and Stewart, there was so much we did and  I didn't begin to say all that went on.
Back up Hwy 37A to Mezidian Junction. Oh boy another treat for the eyes! They talk about lonely highways like Hwy 50 from Ely to Reno, but I would say the loneliest hwy in BC is 37. You don't know the definition of big until you see the great expanse of Northern BC. The horizons of trees and mountains are so far away.
The visibility is crazy. We stopped for a break in Bell II, a lodge, cabins, and restaurant. We loaned some Gorilla duct tape to some young travelers trying to nurse their Subaru with a cracked radiator down to Smithers. It didn't look good but I think it gave them a little hope to press on.
We saw five more bears today. They seem to be the animal to worry about, but they are eating the wildflowers on the shoulder so they don't pay much attention to us. The ranger told us we may see lots of grizzlies between Dease Lake and the BC border. Moose are out in the late evening and early morning so no luck running into them yet. We are killing lots of bugs and mosquitoes with our bikes. Chuck says we are helping keep down the insect population. He said tonight while sitting on the porch that he was going to start using his bug repellent as hairspray.

We can see for miles and miles! What group sang that song?, The Who?
White and green go good together

Two girls displaying the new fashion of textile riding gear!

Yogi and Boo-Boo

Notice the mosquito trap on top of pole. they are the size of sparrows up here.

Barbara says, "No I can hold it"

We met a neat christian lady, Zora, who owns the restaurant across the street from our motel. We had amazing lasagna, Caesar salad, and garlic flat bread. She is really good friends with Franklin Graham and travels with him on some of his mission trips. She is going to make us a picnic lunch for the road tomorrow, hopefully we won't be sharing it with grizzly bears. The weather today was 70's- 80's with puffy white clouds in the sky, how fortunate we are.
Lush green, billions of wild flowers, great pavement, and super blue skies!

Fresh chip seal, rough as a cheese grater

Full tank of gas, curved roads, blue sky, and a place to stay tonight...priceless

Chuck says we have traveled 3.007 miles as of this evening. No close calls, no tip-overs, or mechanical failures. Life is great.....a Saturday with no chores. This is the 8th day we haven't seen darkness. It's 9:10 in the evening and the sun is still about 15 degrees off the horizon.
The Two Wolfes

No shortage of flowers, hanging pots are a common sight

Tomorrow is a pretty big day, 321 miles, Sundays, we call "Church of the Open Road". We will leave British Columbia, enter Yukon territory, and join the Alaska Highway. Dease Lake to Teslin, Yukon!
By the way, the sun just went behind some mountains, it's 10:15

From Barbara:
The Jack Of All Fixes---Gorilla Tape
The wind noise in my helmet was making me crazy and with our destination yet thousands of miles away, I longed to be done. To make matters worse, it transmitted to Chuck through our talkie system, and our "designer earplugs" didn't help. Finally I discovered the menacing airflow was entering through a small gap between the helmet and the top of the face shield. With a quick stop at Canada Tire, the equivalent of our Home Depot/Goodyear/Napa Auto, Chuck purchased a roll of Gorilla Tape and with it, formed a flap that deflected the wind. Problem solved! Why didn't Shoei think of that?
Next fix, the broken tool carrier on Scott's bike
Today the guys used the trusty roll of Gorilla Tape to aid a stranded motorist we met at our morning "relief" stop. A few strips on his cracked radiator and he was on his way!

I think I might have put it in Scott's bag by mistake...
