Day 7 - Thursday 21st
Today was a a pretty long day, McBride to Smithers on the Yellowhead Hwy. 386 miles according to our odometers. Fact, fuel up here is spendy. I paid $1.49 per/liter or $5.64 per/gal for premium. Regular was $5.03!

Our tiny little cozy cabin. |
The scenery from McBride to Prince George was gorgeous. The greens are so vivid up here. The trees like grains of sand on a beach. Don't try to imagine how many there are. When we stopped for breakfast in Prince George both couples revealed they were having the same discussion between them on that 100 mile stretch. In addition to trees we saw 4 black bears grazing on the flowers on the side of the road. Our devotion this morning said to expect surprises from God and pray about everything and expect he will answer.

So, as we do everyday, we prayed for our safety, that we would have no mechanical failures, that we see His majesty everywhere we looked, and we prayed that he would surprise us! Well, just 50 miles down the road I noticed something in the road, which then ran to the shoulder. It wasn't a black bear or brown like a deer, it was a beautiful silver grey. I slowed to a stop as it paused for us to admire. It was a grey wolf! He or she was a feast for the eyes. How many can say they have seen a wolf in the wild? We were able to watch for 30 seconds before it slipped into the thick woods. Of course Chuck and Barabra
Wolfe were ecstatic!

This is a very common sign up here. |
We have seen warning signs for every type of wild life; moose, deer, elk, caribou, cattle, big horn sheep but no wolf signs. What a great surprise! Our disappointment is that we did not get a photo as we could not get the camera out in time and my helmet cam remote was acting up.
Although there were dark clouds all around us with sections of blue sky. We only saw a few drops. When we checked in at the motel in Smithers she asked if we got wet today? I guess they had a real doosey of a thunderstorm a few hours before we arrived.

I swear I packed the curling iron in the trunk.....I just can't afford a new one, I have to save my money for gas! |
Another fun surprise was our waitress at Denny's (yes they have Denny's in Prince George) had taken a trip to Hyder/Stewart area, our destination for tomorrow, and told us all about the area and attractions. She asked us if we were going to get "Hyderized". I knew what she was talking about.... you better stay tuned in for that report.
See ya down the road, dipping into Alaska today!
